March 5, 2010
Hello!
Welcome
to March!
In math, both classes are wrapping up work on chapter eight. The seventh graders are talking about
geometry while the eighth graders are focusing on rates, ratios and
proportions. Both classes can
expect a test on Tuesday (3/9)
In
science, we
wrapped up our chapter on genetics with a test on Wednesday. Our next chapter
will focus on different scientific theories about how the world came to
be. This chapter will end with a
project before spring break.
In
literature with
Miss Holcomb, some of the seventh and eighth graders are continuing the novel
titled The Borrowers, by
Mary Norton. The other students are continuing Johnny Tremain. For social studies,
the seventh and eighth
graders are studying the land and people of Peru and Ecuador. In English, the students are continuing
a unit about different pronouns and how to use them correctly.
In
art, the seventh
and eighth graders are working on drawing dreams with pastels. When they are finished, they will be
writing a short paragraph about what is happening in their dream. We also made centerpieces for
Grandparents’ Day. This week in PE the students had the opportunity to use
roller skates as a nice change of pace.
For Spanish, the seventh and eighth graders are working on creating
their own calendars.
A
quick note about
the Springfield Trip:
Unfortunately,
the
only available date for the trip is over our spring break. For this reason,
Mrs. Spero and I are talking about other possible fieldtrip ideas for the end of
the year. More information will be
sent home as decisions are made. If you have any questions, feel free to
contact me.
A
few reminders:
-The
7th
and 8th graders are ringing chimes at the 7pm Lenten service on
Wednesday, March 17th.
-Final
draft of the
biography paper, timeline and interview are due Friday (3/12).
Have
a wonderful
weekend!
In
Christ,

| Miss Rogers and her brothers |
All
about Miss Rogers...
Miss Rogers grew up in Batavia, IL where she went to
Batavia Public Schools. She played soccer, marched in marching band, and was a member of Future Educators of America
during her time in Batavia. She currently lives in Geneva.
In her free time, Miss Rogers
loves to go for walks, drink coffee, watch movies, go to sporting events (Go Bears!) and of course, laugh!
This
will be her first year here at Immanuel and she is very excited. She graduated from Concordia University-Chicago this
past May with her degree in Lutheran Elementary Education and a Middle School Endorsement in Spanish. She is looking
forward to a great year!
If you have any other questions, please feel free to
e-mail her at miss.rogers86@yahoo.com
